How are you using your voice?

Today's blog is inspired by a sermon given at my church, Victory World Church, on March 8th, 2026. How are you using your voice? Your voice isn't just what you say. In today's world of social media, it's about what you post, like, and comment on. Maybe your voice is less about what you say, and more about what you don't. I want to use my voice to spread love, truth, and grace. I am a follower of Christ, and every day I deal with things that test my faith. Our children look at how we react to different situations and may use it as a template in similar situations later in life.

I was out with my mother and daughter one day. I was stopped at a stop sign, and a man yelled a racial slur out of his window at me to tell me to get out of the way. Quite honestly, it took me back. I hadn't experienced it in a while, especially not near where I frequently shop and live, and I WASN'T IN THE WAY. Well, it happened... in front of my 11-year-old daughter! Now, part of me was raging on the inside. I wanted to turn the car around just to get his license plate to simply report him. I didn't want to do anything to endanger my mother and daughter while they were with me. The other part of me thought about what this moment meant to my daughter. My daughter was outraged and immediately called her father and uncle. I took a moment to breathe. I thanked God that nothing more happened than hearing those unnecessary, obscene words. I prayed for him and prayed that God would touch his heart. Also, I hoped and prayed that if he was ever in a time of need, God would send someone who looked like me to help him. I used my voice in two ways. The first way was I didn't say anything to him, even when I could've honked and cursed. The second way was I prayed out loud so my daughter could hear me bless him, not curse him.

Sometimes it takes a low moment to see our strength. I wasn't weak or scared in that moment. I gave it all to God. I'm perfectly imperfect. I know God is continually working on my heart. I was glad I could be a good example for my daughter and show how we should respond when darkness tries to dim our light.

Still learning, still praying...
